Detroit Center

June 2011 - September 2011
University of Michigan - Detroit Center

After being the webmaster for the Detroit Center site for a year, I was given the opportunity to redesign and redevelop the website. The biggest thing missing from the previous site was a viable content management backend. As such, I developed the new site in Drupal.

The Detroit Center is a liaison for the university with all things going on in Detroit. As such, the biggest goal of the new design was to make it as clear as possible that it is a part of the University of Michigan (UM). This was of paramount importance considering that the UM is not the only university who has a center in Detroit. Therefore, I created the design to include prominent maize and blue colors (school colors), along with mimicking certain design elements from the main university website. Other key aspects of the design were making it as visual as possible by including lots of icons and making the interface easy-to-use by implementing simple navigation and clear information architecture.

What I did

Developed and designed new site from scratch using Drupal to provide content management system for the website, provide ongoing maintenance and configuration changes.

  • Designed custom subtheme
  • Wrote custom module to provide small tweaks to a variety of specific configurations across the site
  • Installed and configured large number of contributed modules to meet the client’s needs
